Review storage safely before removing recordings
A growing library needs regular storage checks, but automatic deletion based on age, file size, or guessed bitrate can erase recordings that have not finished converting. CaptureGem does not provide a user-facing quality-threshold pruning feature.
- Check free space on both the temporary-recording and finished-video drives.
- In the app, identify completed files and separately list recordings that failed or are still processing. Leave their source and retained temporary files in place for recovery.
- Back up selected finished recordings to another location. Verify the copy opens, has the expected duration, and includes audio when the source did.
- Review duplicate or unneeded finished files one by one. Record which exact file is eligible before any permanent removal.
Avoid a scheduled deletion script pointed at the recording folders. A failed conversion is a reason to inspect and retry, not permission to delete the source. See file locations and troubleshooting.
