First-run checklist for a dedicated recording computer

For a dedicated desktop recording computer, run CaptureGem in a graphical session, complete sign-in, and test one recording before leaving it unattended. On Linux x86_64, CaptureGem also supports a separate standalone recorderd setup; use the official standalone Linux guide if you choose that workflow. Its HTTP and proxy ports are unauthenticated, so keep them off untrusted networks.
Before leaving a desktop session running
- Choose the finished-video and temporary folders and confirm both have enough free space.
- Add only supported sites and models you intend to record. Choose Record Always or Record With Expiry for unattended saved videos, then confirm a known-live model records and finishes.
- Keep the computer awake while the app is monitoring, and plan how you will check the app after system restarts.
- Review recording failures, conversion status, and completed-file playback periodically.
- Back up important finished recordings to a separate location after verifying them. Never delete incomplete source data merely because conversion failed.
