GPU acceleration and CaptureGem recordings

Table of Contents

CaptureGem normally saves the video delivered by a stream and finalizes it with a lossless stream copy or remux. Some repair paths can re-encode video. The desktop Settings screen does not provide an NVENC, Quick Sync, or AMF encoder selector for recordings.

What to monitor instead

  • Network: Multiple streams add their bitrates together. Leave headroom for fluctuations.
  • Storage: Temporary segments and finished videos can be on different drives. Keep space on both.
  • CPU: Finalizing or repairing a recording can use FFmpeg and take time after the stream ends.
  • GPU: Playback, VR viewing, and video editing outside CaptureGem may use graphics hardware. A stronger GPU does not automatically let the app capture more streams.

If you transcode a finished video in another application, that application’s hardware encoder settings are separate from CaptureGem. Check the finished output before deleting the source. See bandwidth limits and file locations.
